Las Fotos Project
Las Fotos Project is a community-based nonprofit organization that inspires teenage girls through photography, mentorship, and self-expression. Offering year-round programming, LFP provides girls with access to professional cameras, quality instruction and workshops that encourage them to explore their identity, learn about new cultures, build leadership and advocacy skills, and strengthen their social and emotional well-being.
From 2015-2017, I organized Las Fotos Project Tijuana, working with young women interested in improving their photography skills and civic engagement projects. We held classes and photo walks in downtown Tijuana and various outer neighborhoods. In addition to our classroom work, we participated in a virtual photo exchange with fellow LFP groups in Los Angeles and Venezuela. Projects included film photography, cyanotypes, self-portraits, studio work, and written reflections on what it means to be a young woman growing up in Tijuana today.
Mil gracias to all our workshop participants, volunteer mentoras, visiting artists and the DIY community spaces Raíces & La Pieza, all of whom made this program such a success.
